Jacksonville Bar wants early action on golf tournament

The Jacksonville Bar Association is encouraging members to register early for its annual tennis and golf tournaments, which precede the JBA’s annual meeting at Deerwood Country Club. All events are scheduled for May 18. The golf tournament starts at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. Foursomes will play a Captain’s Choice format. New this year is a Long Drive Exhibition following the tournament. $110 per person entry fee includes lunch, range balls, drinks, greens fees, carts, dinner and prizes. Registration deadline is May 1, but the JBA warns that the golf tournament will sell out. The tennis tournament starts at 1:30 p.m. at the MaliVai Washington Tennis Clinic. The format will be round robin with rotating partners. The $25 registration fee includes court fees, drinks and dinner. Awards and trophies will be handed out during the 6:30 reception immediately preceding the dinner and meeting. Perkins Bar wields Hatchett for scholarship banquet

Court TV series star Judge Glenda Hatchett will be the keynote speaker for the D.W. Perkins Bar’s Annual Scholarship Awards Banquet. The banquet opens May 19 at the Jacksonville Omni Hotel with a 6 p.m. reception. Judge Hatchett, a former juvenile judge who headed one of the country’s largest juvenile court systems, has gained acclaim for her innovative sentences. Her show revolves around “intervention segments” where Hatchett sentences litigants to real life experiences, which are taped for television. As head of Fulton County, Ga.’s Juvenile Court, Hatchett became the state’s first black chief presiding justice. Tickets for the banquet are $75. Call Tony Peacock at 642-8313.
