• Part of the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville’s plans in taking over Cafe Nola had to do with the restaurant’s liquor license. Word is the museum across from Hemming Plaza will soon be the site of two or three Downtown happy hours each week.

• At its Annual Meeting Wednesday, the Southside Business Men’s Club elected officers for 2007. Next year’s officers include Tom Harris, president; Angelo Volpe, 1st vice president; Tim Buchanan, 2nd vice president; Greg Tucker, 3rd vice president; Eric Ramshaw, 4th vice president; Dennis Williams, sergeant at arms; and Mark Wilkinson, treasurer.

• It was announced Friday that the Springfield Preservation and Revitalization Council will present a new outdoor film series at the new-and-improved Klutho Park. Details are still in the works, but one film will be shown in February and the schedule will be expanded in the spring.

• The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville has conducted a survey of local non-profit arts organizations and will soon publish the findings as part of a new promotional campaign. Robert White, executive director of the council, said the economic impact of the arts was $87 million last year and is expected to be more than $130 million this year.

• Don’t bother the folks out at the PGA Tour for the next few days. They’re bringing in employees from all over the country for a first-ever meeting with everyone.

• One of our most prominent Gators, attorney Tom Donahoo, won’t make the national championship football game next month in Arizona. Daughter Lizzie and her attorney hubby, Tom Bishop, have a due date on twins at the same time as the game vs. Ohio State.

The new Downtown This Week is out and it covers upcoming events at the Arena and the work that goes into converting it back and forth from hockey to basketball this time of year. The magazine is free and available all over Downtown.
