DAILY RECORD, JAN. 6 — Attendees of the 121st Annual Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce meeting left with a clear message: 2005 was a really good year for economic growth in Jacksonville and the Chamber’s leadership is looking to make 2006 even better.
“Both Jacksonville and the Chamber had an absolutely killer year,” said
Robert Helms, 2005 chair. “That is a direct result of the commitment, investment and support of our membership.”
Tom Blakely, owner of Southside Cellars, was named the Small Business Leader of the Year. Blakely said he sets his store apart from other wine outlets through personal service, attention and education. Blakely added he was surprised when Compass Bank President Bob White announced him as the winner.
“This is the first time in three years that I am not at the store on a Thursday night for our wine tasting,” he said. “But this is worth it.”
