• Discount Pro Wear at the Landing is moving to a larger space. Owner Harold Fine said the store has out-grown the 3,400 square-foot location, so he’s moving to the empty space next door. He said the new store will be almost 10,000 square feet or about three times the size of the current space. Fine added that he plans to have the new store stocked and open by the first week in April.
• A beach favorite, Lemon Bar, reopened over the weekend. Despite cool temperatures thanks to an ocean breeze (the water temp is still in the low 60s), the oceanfront bar in Neptune Beach was packed. Lemon Bar closes every year around Thanksgiving and reopens when the weather warms.
• Think you can belt out a good rendition of the national anthem? Show up at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Saturday. The Jacksonville Suns are holding open auditions for anthem singers and tryouts for bat boys. Both start at 9 a.m. Potential bat boys must be 14 years old and must bring their most recent report card. Singers will be asked to give a traditional version of the anthem and they will perform the song over the park’s public address system.
• Chris Kauffmann, the senior director for terminal operations and security for the Jacksonville Port Authority, is the guest speaker at next Friday’s First Coast Tiger Bay meeting at the University Club. Starts at 11:30.
• The first “Big Cat for Kids” will be unleashed April 5 in the atrium at City Hall. The larger-than-life jaguars are this year’s Otis Smith Foundation fund raisers. Also, the event is the start of the April Art Walk as well as the official Jacksonville Jazz Festival kick off party.
• Take Me to the River, part of the the Jax Parks Get Out There, week-long celebration of Jacksonville’s parks, is Saturday from noon-4 p.m. at the Northbank Riverwalk, near the Landing. • More going on downtown this weekend. Kids Kampus Survivor — children under the age of 12 have the chance to participate in a series of obstacle courses and other age appropriate competitions. The fun takes place at Kids Kampus Saturday from 1-3 p.m.
