Florida Bar seeks input on judges

With dozens of senior judges seeking new terms on the bench on Sept. 30, the Florida Bar’s Web site is seeking comment on the judges’ fitness and qualifications. A list of judges seeking renewal is available on the Bar Web site. Comments will be taken by mail (the address is on the Web site) or by phone.

Bar looking for civilians

The Florida Bar is inviting members of the public to volunteer for a three-year term on the Florida Board of Board Examiners. The member will be appointed by the Florida Supreme Court. The Board ensures that applicants to the Bar have met the Supreme Court’s requirements prior to admission decisions. The volunteer public member should have education or work-related experience such as educational testing, accounting, statistical analysis, medicine, psychology or related sciences. The experience is necessary to assist the Board in determining an applicant’s fitness, character, and educational and technical competence. A bachelor’s degree is required. Lawyers are not eligible. The job takes up to three days a month. Members should expect to travel around the state. Persons interested in applying can find an online form at www.floridabarexam.org. The application deadline is June 9.

Young Lawyers symposium focuses on branches of government

The roles of the three branches of government are the focus of the Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Governmental Affairs Symposium March 24 from 2-4 p.m. at the Ceremonial Classroom at Levin College of Law, University of Florida. Attendees have the opportunity to hear discussions between members of the legislative, judicial and executive branches regarding the different responsibilities of the co-equal branches of government.
