• The Cornerstone division of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce is holding a regional round table on economic development June 9 at the Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village. It starts at 8 a.m. and wraps up at 2:30.
• Jim Wilson, the commercial counselor for the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Spain, will be in town June 15 for a Chamber-sponsored breakfast briefing called “Spain: Business Opportunities for U.S. Exporters.” RSVP to the Chamber by June 9 to participate.
• Jacksonville University men’s basketball coach Cliff Warren is hosting two basketball camps this summer at the Arlington campus. The first is June 5-9 and the other is June 12-16. Both cost $210 and they’ll be in Swisher Gym. Sign up through the JU basketball office, 256-7415.
• All types of electronics devices are banned from the United States Courthouse, so what do you do with your cell phone if you have to go inside the building? Drop it off at the UPS Store on Hogan Street. For $1, they’ll hold your phone, camera, tape recorder or laptop computer. That’s much better than trying to hide it in the bushes, as some visitors have been advised.
• VyStar Financial Group, LLC announced its new board of directors members. They are: Ralph Story, chair; Esther Schiltz, vice-chair; P. Kem Siddons, secretary/treasurer; and George Bajalia and Michael Cascone, directors.
• The Vans Warped Tour will be making its annual stop in Jacksonville June 22 at Metropolitan Park. The day-long event gets underway at 11 a.m. with 60 bands playing as well as a skateboard and street bike area.
• Nice check for The Donna Hicken Foundation: $186,000 from the sale of a home in a subdivision near the World Golf Village. Donors were CornerStone Homes and their suppliers.
• Internet sensation Jenn Sterger, who was in town last week to watch the Seminoles baseball team, isn’t just good in front of the camera. She’s quick with a phrase as well. Asked for an interview by a Daily Record reporter, she responded: “That depends. You’re not going to try to spin me are you? Because I’ll spin you right back.”
• The folks at daniel are not pleased with the legislature’s decision to eliminate funding for the Early Delinquency Intervention Program in the Jacksonville area. Jim Clark, daniel CEO, says the measure will affect over 250 kids and he’s asking local elected officials to petition Gov. Jeb Bush for help.
