• The staff at the Museum of Contempary Art Jacksonville made a last-minute decision to be closed Friday since it was the Veteran’s Day holiday for many Downtown workers. However, they forgot to tell the people who work at Cafe Nola, the restaurant in the museum’s lobby. At 8 a.m. the entire Cafe Nola staff was there to get ready for lunch, but were locked out of the building and standing on the sidewalk. Owner Pam Pollett said she’s looking forward to moving the restaurant to the new EverBank building on Riverside Avenue in about 60 days.
• Celebrate Tiara’s 2nd anniversary 5-8 p.m. Nov. 16 at the store on Laura Street. The party will feature complimentary makeovers and specials on purchases.
• Correction. The WorkSource press conference is tomorrow at 11 a.m. The time was incorrect in a Friday City Note.
• Florida Bar President Hank Coxe was the guest speaker at last week’s Rotary Club of South Jacksonville meeting and he was introduced by Chief Assistant State Attorney Jay Plotkin. As usual, Coxe took — and gave — a good-natured verbal jab or two. “Without Hank, all the pro football players in this town that get arrested wouldn’t have a lawyer,” said Plotkin. Coxe fired back, though, with “This event fits my schedule perfectly because after it I am going to send an e-mail to Tallahassee to immediately have Jay Plotkin’s license suspended.”
• Guests staying at the Omni Hotel this weekend and the weekends of Dec. 16 and Jan. 20 will have the opportunity to enjoy the culture of Spain with the hotel’s package, “Discover Spain” coinciding with the Omni’s Flavors of World Campaign. About 50 of the Omni’s executive chefs traveled to Spain to learn about the country’s traditions and cooking styles first-hand. Guests will have the chance to enjoy food and wine from Spain as well as participate in a Spanish cooking class with one of the hotel’s chefs. Eleven of the Omni Hotels around the country will be offering the package.
• Florida Coastal School of Law Assistant Dean Eric Smith has been appointed to the management team of Jacksonville Community Council’s 2006 Study “E3 — Energy, Environment and Economy: Improving Air Quality for the Natural Environment, Economy and Our Health.”
