• According to Downtown Vision, Inc., 400 people attended the Nov. 17 VIP Platinum Tour element of the Downtown Living Tour and 550 people attended on Nov. 18, the day the tour was open to the general public.
• Little Connor Peyton, son of Mayor John and wife Kathryn, is getting a brother in May. The elder Peyton spilled the beans Monday.
• The Fraternal Order of Police will hold its big Christmas party Dec. 22 from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the FOP headquarters on Beach Boulevard.
• “Breakfast with Santa” at the Museum of Science & History will be held Saturday at 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. and again Dec. 9. at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Member prices are $4 for children and $6 for adults; non-member prices are $7 for children and $9 for adults. • The Main Library may be getting a new addition. If Council approves, the Jacksonville Historical Society will set up an exhibit in the library.
• Paradise Cafe will be closed through Monday. The owners are on vacation.
• The annual World AIDS Day quilt display opens at City Hall Wednesday. There will be dozens of elaborate quilts hanging from each floor of the building.
• The Sales and Marketing Council of the Northeast Florida Builders Association will defend its title as SMC of the Year as ranked by the National SMC, a council of the National Association of Home Builders. In councils with more than 500 members (NEFBA’s SMC has nearly 1,000) others are: SMC of Greater Houston; Washington Metropolitan SMC (Chantilly, Va.); Inland SMC (Huntington Beach, Ca.); and Triangle SMC (Raleigh, N.C.). The awards ceremony is one of the highlights for the NAHB’s annual International Builders’ Show, an exposition and conference that routinely attracts more than 90,000 building industry professionals. The black-tie, multimedia gala is Feb. 7-10 in Orlando.
