Help for housing

Thomas Jenks, a partner with Pappas, Metcalf, Jenks & Miller, P.A., was recognized for his 25 hours of pro bono work for Golfair Estates, a new affordable housing subdivision in Northwest Jacksonville, at their ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. He prepared a declaration of covenants and restrictions for the developers and formed the subdivision’s homeowners’ association by drafting articles of incorporation and by-laws.

Review course for CLAs

The Northeast Florida Paralegal Association is holding review courses for certified legal assistants over the next several weeks at Florida Community College at Jacksonville’s Kent Campus. The Saturday courses start this Saturday and run through Nov. 11. They are from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in building 2, room 209. An optional essay writing workshop is set for Nov. 18. Seeking applicants

The Judicial Nominating Commission for the First District Court of Appeal is taking applications to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Richard W. Ervin III. Applications must have been a member of The Florida Bar for the preceding 10 years, a registered voter and a resident of the jurisdiction of the court at the time they assume office. Applications may be obtained from the office of Jason Gonzalez, Ausley & McMullen P.A., 227 S. Calhoun St., Tallahassee, Fla. 32301, or may be downloaded from the Bar’s Web site at www.floridabar.org. An original and nine copies of the completed application and attachments must be delivered to Jason Gonzalez, Chairman, First DCA JNC, 227 S. Calhoun St., Tallahassee, Fla. 32301, no later than 5 p.m., Oct. 30.

Ivan & Cole honored

Attorneys Michael Ivan Jr. and John Cole were recently named as two of Florida Trend magazine’s Florida Legal Elite for 2006. Ivan’s practice focuses on estate, tax and business litigation planning and Cole represents individuals and professional fiduciaries on estate and trust litigation and fiduciary risk management. Also at the firm, paralegal Jan Smith recently earned her Certified Legal Assistant designation.
