Downtown Vision Inc.’s Downtown Ambassador program celebrated its fifth birthday Friday at Hemming Plaza.
Hundreds of people filled the plaza to be part of the celebration that included cake, souvenirs and the debut of a new song written and performed by Ambassador Lydia Cobbert, “Jacksonville; Where Florida begins.” Cobbert said she has offered her song to the City to use in TV and radio commercials.
DVI Operations manager Walter Thomas said he can remember when it was hard to keep 10 Ambassadors on the staff for the day and night shifts, “But now, we have people applying for the job all the time.”
DVI Executive Director Terry Lorince said in the past five years, the Downtown Ambassadors have had a tremendous impact on improving the experience of coming Downtown.
“The Ambassadors program has been a great success making the streets of Downtown safer and cleaner for workers, residents and visitors,” said Lorince.
