• Talbot Island is looking for volunteers to spend 4-20 hours per week making visitors’ outings more enjoyable. Ranger Brian will be conducting a volunteer orientation session at the Ribault Club on Fort George Island Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. Any questions about the volunteer program can be answered by the Talbot Islands Ranger Station at 251-2320. • Adam Hollingsworth will share the City’s position on Cecil Field Monday at 6 p.m. at the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce offices. Hollingsworth, chief of policy for the mayor, will speak at the IMPACTjax meeting.

• Jacksonville made Partners for Livable Communities’ April 2004 list of “America’s Most Livable Cities,” and now the nonprofit organization is asking Mayor John Peyton for more money. In a letter, they asked Peyton for a three-year renewal of their “web and marketing relationship” to “booster your visibility as America’s best community.”
• Correction. The Jacksonville Historical Society’s presentation is Nov. 15 at Old St. Andrews church. They’ll recognizing the Hotel Ponce de Leon in St. Augustine, which is now the central building of Flagler College beginning at 7 p.m.
• What do you do when you have to be at two venues across the state in the same day? Take a helicopter, of course. On site sales agents Leighton Hulslander and Norma Weikel of The Strand will be in Del Ray Beach Nov. 15 for a “Realtor Boot Camp.” That same day, they’ll return to Jacksonville for a Realtor event at the Southbank residential tower using Strand developer Granvil Tracy’s helicopter. • Jacksonville Community Council Inc. begins its new study called EN today and will continue to meet every Wednesday until May 16, 2007 at the JCCI offices. The study will address how Jacksonville can reduce airborne pollutants to improve its natural environment, economy and public health.
• A new art gallery called Open Gallery opened in San Marco earlier this month, but this art gallery is unlike many others. Open Gallery is located in a home. The owners of the home were looking for a larger house, but they decided to keep their old house, too — now the art gallery — to display art by local artists.
