• Former Mayor and current UNF President John Delaney is being roasted Friday night and the roasters have been set: former Sheriff Nat Glover, AmSouth City President Marty Lanahan, State Rep. Mark Mahon and General Counsel Rick Mullaney. The event is being emceed by AM-930’s David Lamm. It’s being put on by the UNF Osprey Club and the proceeds benefit UNF athletics. Tickets are $100 or a $750 for a table of eight.

• Mayor John Peyton has recommended Dr. Robert Nuss to the state’s Board of Medicine. Nuss is the dean of the OBGYN Department at Shands Jacksonville and is also a teaching physician.

• Angelo’s Italian restaurant on University Boulevard North will reopen Nov. 3. A patio with a bar and bocce-ball courts has been added to the area behind the building, but the menu and atmosphere at the landmark eatery will remain the same.

• Panache Partners, LLC out of Dallas has published a book called “Spectacular Homes of Florida” that features the work of top interior designers from all over the state. Six area designers made the book: Vibha Hutchins Design, Judith Sisler Johnston, R. Ward Lariscy, Inc., Amelia Island Design, Inc., Schulte Design Associates, Inc. and Ginny Stine Interiors.

• Have you noticed a new look for the local Kangaroo gas stations? At Monday’s Finance Committee meeting, City Council member Elaine Brown said the CEO and president of the Kangaroo stores called her in response to some comments she recently made about their brightly-colored signs. “Do you guys remember when were were approving a Kangaroo service station, and I said, ‘Think beige?’ ”she said. “Jacksonville is the proud owner of a less obtrusive, offensive look ... If you look at our four Kangaroo stores and service stations, you’ll find they’re looking good.”

• Local actors and actresses will be performing in Theatre Jacksonville’s upcoming show “Over The Tavern.” The show is a semi-realistic story about playwright Tom Dudzick’s family when he was growing up in Buffalo, N.Y. — over a tavern. You can catch the show at Theatre Jacksonville Nov. 3-5, 9-12, 16-18. For more information on show times and ticket prices call 396-4425.

• Phyllis Bell-Davis, the assistant vice president of institutional advancement at Edward Waters College, has resigned. Her last day was Wednesday and Bell-Davis said she doesn’t have any firm employment plans right now.

• Fresh Ministries’ Jacksonville Hospitality Institute received funding from Comcast to create the Comcast Hospitality Skill Center, which will be a fully equipped training center for low-income, underemployed and unemployed individuals between 18-45 years of age. The center is to meet a regional need for well-prepared, entry-level professionals for careers in the hospitality industry. The first orientation for participants at the new facility is Nov. 16.

• The Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida’s 21st annual Steak & Steak event took place Oct. 12 at the Citi facility on the Southside, raising more than $103,000 for the organization which has 11 clubs throughout Northeast Florida. More than 350 guests were in attendance.

• The City’s Camp Milton Historic Preserve will be the site of Artifact Amnesty Day, hosted by Historical Archaeologist Sarah Miller of JaxParks. It’s Nov. 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Prior to the opening of Camp Milton this summer, the site remained undeveloped for several years. As a result, many artifacts have been removed and there is little left for the archaeologist to find. Miller asks anyone who has discovered artifacts or documents in the Camp Milton area to bring them to the preserve this day to be photographed and cataloged. Officials will not ask participants to give up their artifacts. The photos will be used in creating displays in the park’s museum and the information will help experts interpret the history of the site.

• Bubba Burgers and beer with Berlioz and Bach? The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra is hosting the 5th annual Barbeque of Seville next Wednesday. The fall cookout starts at 5 p.m. with a concert at 6 p.m. The event has been rescheduled from Oct. 24. More info at 354-3578.

• WJCT’s series of community forums looking at local elections is Thursday at 8 p.m. and they are asking for your comments or questions. To submit one, e-mail [email protected]. Candidates for U.S. and Florida House of Representatives, Duval County Court and County Commissions in Clay, Nassau and St. Johns Counties will be on the show.

• The new Griffin Lincoln Mercury dealership on Blanding Boulevard officially opens Friday. Those invited can bring back their invitations by Oct. 31 and get $500 off a new or used car.

• Remember “Lassie” the movie? The Florida Theatre will be showing it Nov. 26 as part of a fundraiser for the First Coast No More Homeless Pets SpayJax program.

• The Jacksonville Firefighters Association is starting a weekly bingo game at the Jacksonville Firefighter Hall at the intersection of Stockton and Roselle streets. Doors open on Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. and the games get underway at 9:45. Proceeds go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (Jerry’s Kids) and Camp Amigo, a burn camp operated by firefighters from Jacksonville, Tallahassee and Alachua County.
