• 1969’s “World’s Strongest Man” Joe Dube, Florida State Champion and holder of all state records in the 198 lb. and heavyweight class will be in town this weekend at Episcopal High School for the “2006 Joe Dube Classic” to benefit the Special Olympics. Admission to the events is $5 per day. Dube won the World Championship in Warsaw, Poland in 1969 and was honored by Pres. Richard Nixon for winning the World Championship. The annual classic was created after Dube wanted to find a way to benefit children in the local community and give back to a community that was “so supportive of him when he was competing on the International level.”
• The First Coast Manufacturers Association named Florida Rock Industries, Inc. as the winner of the 2006 Manufacturer of the Year; it named Shaw’s Southern Belle Frozen Food, Inc. as the 2006 Economic Impact award winner.
• Florida Bar Association President Hank Coxe is making a cameo on a public service announcement, currently airing on TV-30, to promote support for Jacksonville Area Legal Aid. Coxe is appearing in one of a series of six PSA’s highlighting JALA and its programs.
• Jacksonville Area Legal Aid will honor Foley & Lardner attorney and City Council member Kevin Hyde at the 8th Annual “Equal Justice” awards reception Nov. 16 at The River Club. It’s from 6-8 p.m. and Haskell President Steve Halverson is the guest speaker.
• Correction. Former gubernatorial candidate Bill McBride is not longer with Holland & Knight as we said in a story Friday. McBride is with another Tampa firm — Barnett Bolt Kirkwood Long & McBride.
• The Gator Bowl Association Committee is meeting Thursday at 5 p.m. at Sawgrass Marriott.
