Christmas is coming

Ruth Thompson of Milton Leach Whitman D’Andrea Charek & Milton and Cindy Coats (left) of Schutt Schmidt Burnett & Noey are heading up the Jacksonville Bar Association’s 2006 holiday project. The annual project benefits senior citizens in Duval County. Sponsors are needed to purchase and deliver gifts to senior citizens.

Pig Pickin’ For JALA

The Young Lawyers Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association is holding a Pig Pickin’ Barbeque Benefit for Jacksonville Area Legal Aid Nov. 19 from 2-5 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 17 in Marsh Landing. Tickets are $15 each and include roasted pig and beer. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling Beth Luna at 356-8371, ext. 362 or Troy Smith at 798-5414.

Paralegal luncheon

The Northeast Florida Paralegal Association luncheon is Thursday from noon-1 p.m. at The River Club. Attorney William Ryan will talk about the practice of real estate law for the paralegal. It’s $20 for members and $25 for non-members and guests. For more, call 366-2388.

Fowler Whites adds

to firm

University of Florida Levin College of Law graduate J. Phillip Gibbs has joined the Jacksonville office of Fowler White Boggs Banker. Gibbs will practice in the firm’s securities, financial services and white collar practice group where he will concentrate on his business law practice. The Tampa-based firm has more than 230 attorneys in 10 offices all over the state.

ABOTA sponsoring Pajcic seminar

The Jacksonville chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), is sponsoring “The Gary Pajcic Professionalism Seminar” Thursday from 2-5 p.m. in Courtroom A of the Duval County Courthouse. The topic is the Florida Bar Grievance Procedures, lead by Rut Liles of Liles, Gavin, Constantino & George. Chief Judge Don Moran will provide the opening remarks. Other speakers include Circuit Court Judges Charles Arnold, Charles Mitchell and Haldine Taylor. The free seminar is open to all attorneys and Florida Bar ethics credit will be given. Two moose and an elk

Attorneys Tom Edwards and Howard Coker recently spent two weeks in the Northern Canadian Rockies where they hunted for moose and elk. Edwards brought home both and elk and a moose while Coker bagged a moose. Russell Grooms, a former president of the Florida Association of Realtors, was also on the trip.
