• Because of scheduling conflicts, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra had to reschedule “A Tribute to the Grateful Dead.” The concert scheduled for last Saturday will be on May 18 at 8 p.m. at the T-U Center. Ticket holders are being asked to keep their tickets, because they will be honored at the May 18 concert.

• The Jacksonville Children’s Commission is accepting applications from civic and faith-based organizations who are interested in serving summer lunches and snacks to children 18 years old and younger through its Summer Lunch Program. The program begins May 29 and ends Aug. 17. If you are interested, visit www.jaxkids.net for an application. Sponsors must apply by April 27.

• Enjoy the Museum of Science and History for free on May 5 for its “Enjoy the Free Clean Air Day.” The day will be filled with interactive activities about keeping the air clean. • Attention mariners: “Happy Landing,” the recently expanded souvenir store, cocktail lounge and package store at the Landing near the courtyard entrance and the ice cream shop, has added dockside service for pleasure boaters. Orders for liquor, beer and ice must be placed in advance and paid for with a credit card, then the supplies will be delivered to your vessel after you arrive at the Landing. Call 394-0529 for details.

• Speaking of the Landing, it will host an ecology fair to celebrate the 37th anniversary of Earth Day Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The schedule includes exhibits about the environment and its protection. Children’s activities will include face painting, craft projects with recycled and reused materials and live birds and snakes from the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens and the City’s Dept. of Parks, Recreation, Entertainment and Conservation. Two live bands are scheduled to perform on the courtyard stage later in the day beginning at 5 p.m.

“Agriculture, manufactures, commerce, and navigation, the four pillars of our prosperity, are then most thriving when left most free to individual enterprise. Protection from casual embarrassments, however, may sometimes be seasonably interposed.”
– Thomas Jefferson
