• The Justice Coalition’s 5th Annual “Together We Can” campaign is Feb. 22 at San Jose Country Club. Five area sheriffs will be on hand: John Rutherford of Jacksonville, Rick Beseler of Clay County, Joey B. Dobson of Baker County, Tommy Seagraves of Nassau County and David B. Shoar of St. Johns County.
• The new Bailey’s Powerhouse Gym in Atlantic Beach opened bright and early Monday morning. It’s between the Atlantic Beach Theatre and the ABC Liquor store.
• Mayor John Peyton has been selected by the University of North Florida’s College of Education and Human Services to receive the school’s first annual Education Partnership Award. Peyton’s being honored for his Rally Jacksonville! early literacy initiative. The ceremony is March 30 at noon at the school’s University Center.
• According to its collections manager, Alice Phillips, the St. Petersburg Museum of History would like to make a donation to the City of Jacksonville. The group has a souvenir china plate of the old Jacksonville Government and Post Office Building. They aren’t sure how old it is, but they do know it’s English Staffordshire china and was imported by the Knight Crockery and Furniture Co. of Jacksonville.
• The City’s looking for volunteers for the 12th annual St. Johns River Celebration, a riverbank clean-up event. It’s March 17 from 8-11:30 a.m. and includes more than 20 sites all over town. About 1,000 volunteers are needed. Call 630-3420 to register or to get more information.
• For the past two-and-a-half years, Jennifer MacPhee has been the director of communications for the Jacksonville & the Beaches Convention and Visitors Bureau. She will leave that post Friday for a new position, but she’s not moving very far – just a few blocks, in fact. As of Feb. 12, MacPhee will take over as the director of marketing and communications for the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.
