• Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. has partnered with WELLSPOT Medical Clinics out of Birmingham, Ala. to open free-standing, walk-in medical clinics in two Jacksonville grocery stores. The new clinics are at the Winn-Dixie locations at 5207 Normandy Blvd. near Cassat Ave. and 11380-8 Beach Blvd. near St. Johns Bluff Rd. A third clinic will open soon at the store at 1436 S.R. 121 near I-10 in Maccleny. Within a year, clinics will open at Winn-Dixie stores in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. The facilities provide basic non-emergency medical care and are staffed by registered nurse practitioners. WELLSPOT accepts Visa, Mastercard, debit cards, checks and cash and is currently negotiating with Florida insurance providers to accept their policies.

• Hal Holbrook is bringing his one-man show, “Mark Twain Tonight,” to the Florida Theatre Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. Holbrook has been presenting the iconic American author and humorist’s material for 50 years. Tickets are $28.50 to $48.50 plus service and facility fees and may be purchased by calling 632-3373 or by visiting www.artistseries.fccj.org .

• The Early Learning Coalition registered 1,200 children into the Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program Saturday at the Main Library. Additional enrollment events will be held at public high schools and branch libraries through May 29. Eligible children must have been born between Sept. 2, 2002 and Sept. 1, 2003. • The First Coast Tiger Bay Luncheon will be held Friday at noon at the University Club at 1301 Riverplace Blvd. The event provides an open forum for the experience and analysis of the issues, personalities and affairs of local, state and federal government. This month’s guests will be Jerry Holland and Suzanne Jenkins, candidates for Supervisor of Elections. Buffet lunch is $25; RSVP to 306-9065.

• Episcopal Children’s Services will host the Second Annual Children’s Champion Luncheon Feb. 28 at noon at the University of North Florida’s University Center. This year’s Children’s Champion is Delores Barr Weaver, co-owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars and CEO of the Jaguars Foundation. Under her direction, the foundation has awarded more than $9.5 million to dozens of nonprofit organizations in North Florida that serve economically and socially disadvantaged children and their families. Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for a corporate table. For information, call 726-1500.

• Central Florida is still feeling the effects from the tornadoes: Figures released by the Volusia County Department of Economic Development indicate that up to 40 businesses were damaged by the recent tornadoes and 10 or more were impacted due to spoilage caused by loss of power. As many as 300 workers will suffer temporary or permament loss of employment due to the damage. According to the county property appraiser, the businesses sustained more than $19.5 million in storm-related damages.

• Fire and Pension Fund Executive Director John Keane says the Kuhn Companies completed the purchase of the Laura Street Trio Friday afternoon. The price tag was $6.4 million for the three historic buildings.
