A Green Living seminar and barbeque on Jan. 20 will benefit the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary. The seminar is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary, 1860 Starratt Rd., in Jacksonville. The seminar will be presented by Eco-$mart Inc., a supplier of healthy, efficient, disaster-resistant construction materials and a member of the Northeast Florida Builders Association.

The seminar will feature a wide variety of methods for reducing energy costs, improving indoor air quality, improving hurricane, mold and fire resistance, and reducing insurance costs for remodeling existing homes and commercial buildings, and in new construction. Hands-on displays will offer the opportunity to see, touch and explore many different green materials including poured concrete wall-and-roof systems, windows, lighting, bamboo and coconut palm flooring, soy-based foam insulation, green roofing, solar water and pool heating, solar electric systems, recycled rubber porous paving, recycled plastic decking, fabric hurricane panels, and more.

JEA representatives will present energy and water saving ideas and discuss incentive programs available.

Eco-$mart Inc. was founded in 1993 in Sarasota in partnership with the nonprofit Florida House Institute for Sustainable Development. The company opened a regional office in Jacksonville this summer.

The Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary is dedicated the rescue and care of big cats. The sanctuary provides care and shelter to cats confiscated by the state for illegal ownership, improper enclosures or maltreatment. Catty Shack also educates the public to discourage illegal private ownership. Wild animals, especially big cats, do not make good pets.

To raise money for the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary, a full barbeque lunch has been donated by Mojo barbecue restaurant, 1607 University Blvd. W., in Jacksonville, and soon opening a new location at 1500 Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville Beach. The price for the lunch and seminar is $15 with all proceeds going to the sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (donations are tax deductible). Seating is limited and reservations are required.
