• The I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless will officially dedicate its new Health Center Friday morning at 11 a.m. The center is the latest addition to the growing nonprofit’s facilities, which serve the needs of the local homeless community.
• City Council member Lake Ray is hosting a Town Hall meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Police Athletic League’s cafeteria at Ed Austin Regional Park. Arlington residents may want to attend. Representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation will be on hand to talk about upcoming work on the Mathews Bridge and how the lane closures will affect the traffic flow from Arlington to Downtown.
• The Northeast Florida Human Trafficking Task Force is kicking off Human Trafficking Awareness Week with a press conference Monday at 1 p.m. in the Main Library. Arnold Corsmeier of the U.S. Attorney’s Office chairs the task force. The week-long campaign, “Look Beneath the Surface,” is designed to educate the public about human trafficking, including the signs to look for and what kinds of questions to ask.
• Otis at the Modis: The Otis Smith Kids Foundation is moving out of its office in Avondale and into a space on the 33rd floor at One Independent Square. The move should be complete by the middle of February, according to Executive Director Bonnie Upright. She added that the foundation’s first headquarters was located Downtown, so this move will allow the organization to “return to its roots and be closer to the business community” that sponsors so many of the foundation’s programs.
• Looking for a good way to unload that pack of underwear you got for Christmas? Bring them to Dignity U Wear’s annual “Undie Sunday” and “Undie Monday” campaign. The event is March 11 and 12 and the goal is participation from 300 organizations and 100,000 pieces of clothing. Last year, the nonprofit organization that provides new clothing to men, women and children in need received more than 73,000 pieces of new underwear from more than 200 organizations.
• The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra is offering cheaper ticket options for families and students. Student-family rush tickets are available for $5 to adults accompanying students to select performances during the Symphony’s regular subscription season. Students with valid college I.D.s can purchase $5 tickets for some concerts, as well. The rush discounts are only valid 90 minutes before a scheduled performance. • Jacksonville University will host an education forum, “Promoting Jacksonville Through Education,” beginning 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Davis School of Business Auditorium.
