• The photos of the new City Council members have been taken and will go up next week. However, the departing 10 members of Council don’t get to keep their’s. They are City property and will go into storage.

• Moving on: Times-Union business writer Joe Light is headed to New York where he’ll write for Money Magazine.

• The new crop of Jaguars means some fancy homes will be sold, but a prominent real estate agent says the players’ wives are cautious until they’re sure that hubby has a big contract. Elizabeth Hudgins of Prudential Network Realty says that one wife told her that NFL stands for ‘Not For Long.’

• New roof going on for Jackson High on Main Street. The building is so tall that they’re having to use cranes to lower old material and raise new stuff.

• Another construction project is on the big pink apartment building across from the Riverside Publix. The original facing, it turns out, was done on the cheap and it all has to be replaced.

• Jacksonville University’s football team plays on a low level — they aren’t allowed to give scholarships — but that doesn’t mean they won’t be tough. Coach Kerwin Bell’s first spring practice has ended and 17 of the original 100 players quit the squad.

• LaVerne Mitchell, whose Infinity Fashions store at the Landing didn’t make it, is now a Realtor in Yulee.

• Former Director of the Planning Department and candidate for City Council District 11 Mike Saylor was visiting some of his former co-workers last week. He said while he was at first disappointed he didn’t win the election, in view of the current budget crisis facing City Hall, “It looks like I picked a good time to lose.”

• The Florida Department of Transportation will hold a public workshop July 12 in the Jacksonville Beach City Council Chambers to discuss improvement to A1A. The doors open at 4 p.m.

• Einstein Bros. Bagels at the Hyatt has been open for a few months, but the official grand opening is Wednesday from 8-10:30 a.m.

• Per City Charter, General Counsel Rick Mullaney is up for reappointment. The resolution will be introduced to Council Tuesday night.
