• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce Cornerstone Luncheon will include guest speaker Dr. John Lehman, former secretary of the Navy and chairman of the Atlantic Marine Holding Company March 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront. • Also at the Hyatt, the Chamber’s IMPACTjax will present the Las Vegas Extravaganza March 2 at 7 p.m. Call 366-6684 for information.

• “Spring for the Arts,” a benefit for the Cathedral Arts Project, will be held March 30 at Deerwood Country Club. Wines from three California wineries plus a selection of European vineyards will be available for tasting. This year’s Guardian of the Arts Award recipient is James H. Winston. • What, another blog? Austin Cassidy, elected Supervisor on the Duval County Soil and Water Conservation Board has co-created JaxDaily.com with University of North Florida student Stephen Covington. The site posts links to select news sites and publishes original content about twice a week. According to the site, the two hope the blog will serve to cover people and events on First Coast and adds, “as an online news and lifestyle Web site, we seek to foster debate about important issues, and frequently we will share our own opinions.”

• Leadership Jacksonville is in the process of creating the Class of 2008 and they’ve gotten plenty of names to consider. According to executive director Isabel Owen Spence, 192 people were nominated with 152 of them actually applying. Last year 138 applied. Over the course of the next two-and-a-half months, the applicants will be interviewed and pared down to the final 55 in mid-May.

• JTA’s holding a public meeting March 6 and it should draw a big crowd. The topic is the Atlantic Boulevard/Kernan Road interchange. It’s from 5-7 p.m. at Kernan Middle School. JTA officials will share plans, update citizens and solicit feedback on the design process of the new interchange.

• City Council member Gwen Yates was appointed by Council President Michael Corrigan to sit on the Duval County Election Canvassing Board. However, Yates has declined the appointment citing her public endorsement of a candidate for office in the spring elections.

• Friday is a big day for candidates for office. The first post-qualifying finance reports are due in the Supervisor of Elections Office by 5 p.m.
