DeVry University is coming to Jacksonville. The school offers Associate, Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses both on site and online to accommodate students’ work schedules and boasts a 90 percent employment rate for undergraduate students within six months of graduation, of those who actively pursue employment.
More than 48,000 students are enrolled at the school’s 84 locations in 24 states and Canada, as well as through DeVry University Online.
The new location at 8131 Baymeadows Circle West has year-round programs that allow students to complete bachelor’s degrees in three years or less and an associate degree in less than one and one-half years. The university also offers master’s degree programs through its Keller Graduate School of Management.
Lynne Croteau is the director of center operations for Jacksonville. She’s also a DeVry graduate and says the school will be good for the area.
“As a Keller graduate myself, I can attest to the career-oriented, flexible and student-focused programs available at the University,” she said. “Our faculty are industry professionals who thoroughly prepare our students for the working world. And for those students who are employed, we provide flexible day, evening and weekend classes as well as online courses to work around their busy schedules.”
Programs at DeVry are student-focused and career-oriented. DeVry maintains an active career services office to support students and graduates seeking positions in their field of academic specialty and faculty bring hands-on industry experience to an applications-based learning environment. For the 10-year period ending February 2006, more than 90 percent of DeVry undergraduates system-wide who actively pursued employment landed positions in their field of study within six months of graduation.
Students in Northeast Florida can avail themselves of Bachelor’s degree programs in business administration and technical management, as well as an Associate degree program in accounting technology.
Through DeVry’s Keller Graduate School of Management, which is one of the largest part-time graduate schools in the United States, students can earn Master’s degrees in accounting and financial management, business administration, human resource management, information systems management, network and communications management, project management and public administration.
Potential students can meet faculty and staff during DeVry’s weekly open house sessions.
“It is important that students have the opportunity to meet with us and get a better feel for what DeVry is all about before they commit to our programs,” said Croteau. Open house sessions are held every Saturday at the Jacksonville Center from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. There will not be an open house session over the Easter weekend.
DeVry University has other Florida locations in Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Miramar.
