Two former University of Florida football coaches are on this year’s ballot for the Georgia-Florida Hall of Fame.
Nine players, coaches or administrators from the University of Georgia and a like number from the University of Florida make up this year’s ballot, which was sent to voters this week.
Two from each school will be chosen and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the annual luncheon on the day before the game, Oct. 25.
The Hall of Fame is administered by the Sports & Entertainment board of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission. Voters include board members, past Hall of Fame inductees and a panel of sportswriters and sportscasters.
The former Florida coaches are Doug Dickey and Galen Hall. Dickey also played in the game as a quarterback and safety.
Other Gators on the ballot are two who are now Jacksonville businessmen, attorney Fred Abbot and banker Andy Cheney. Abbot was a linebacker; Cheney a defensive back.
Others are kicker Judd Davis, assistant coach Gene Ellenson, quarterback Doug Johnson, receiver Ernie Mills and running back Jim Roundtree.
The Georgia side of the ballot has linemen Mike “Moonpie” Wilson, Herb St. John and Mike Castronis; sports information directors Claude Felton and Dan Magill; quarterback Jimmy Harper; running backs Tim Worley and Ronnie Jenkins and defensive back Ken Pillsbury.
“The voters can write in, too,” said Mike Bouda, who administers the Hall of Fame. “We also solicit names for next year’s ballot.”
The ceremony will be in a tent adjacent to the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Outback Steakhouse is a major sponsor and tables are sold to fans. Ticket information will be released later.
Ballots are due by the end of business Monday and those who got one can fax their nominations to (904) 630-3606.
