Since he was elected to the City Council by the people of Dist. 12 in 2003, Daniel Davis has had quite a career in public service.
During his second year in office, he was the recipient of the 2004-05 Charles. D. Webb Award, the Council’s most prestigious internal honor and one bestowed by the members themselves.
Davis was chair of the Finance Committee in 2004-05 and was elected vice president for the 2006-07 Council year. He has also served on the Finance, Rules, Growth Management and Audit committees.
He moved into the Council president’s corner office overlooking Hemming Plaza in July.
He is also director of the Northeast Florida Builders Association (NEFBA) and represents the building and construction industry in Duval, Clay, St. Johns and Nassau counties on statewide issues.
The two jobs are actually quite similar, he said.
“Whether I’m at NEFBA or at City Hall, I get to work with a lot of people who have Type-A personalities,” said Davis. “They take pride in being able to get the job done. My biggest challenge is making sure both organizations hold efficient meetings because usually not everyone agrees at first on what the best solution is for an issue.
“I’m just happy to be able to serve both groups.”
