PRC Digital’s local TV documentary “The Green Monster: It Came From The River” took first place at the “Awards for Reporting on the Environment.”
The awards ceremony was Sept. 5 at Stanford University. “CBS Evening News” finished in second for its series of reports on the impact of global warming.
“That blew us away,” said Bill Retherford, producer-writer of “The Green Monster.” “For a staff of six to take on CBS News — and win — is a real thrill.”
PRC Digital Media, the Jacksonville television and video production facility that produced “The Green Monster,” won for “Outstanding In-Depth Television Reporting.”
“We can’t begin to tell you how pleased we are to receive this award and the national recognition it brings,” said Ray Hays, PRC Digital president and “Green Monster’s” executive producer.
The awards, sponsored by the Society of Environmental Journalists, are the “world’s largest and most comprehensive” honors for eco-reporting.
“The Green Monster” was sponsored by the St. Johns Riverkeeper and aired in March 2006 after the summer of 2005 when there was a large algae bloom in the St. Johns River.
