Glitz, glamour and goodwill will combine for a grand time as the Jacksonville Urban League (JUL) concludes it’s anniversary festivities with a fabulous Anniversary & Equal Opportunity Awards Gala Oct. 20 at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel.
Tickets are now available for the 60th anniversary event.
Winn Dixie Stores, Inc. is the Presenting Sponsor for the Anniversary Celebration and CBS-47 is the Gala Partner. Popular news anchors Dawn Lopez and John O’Connor of CBS-47 will serve as the gala hosts.
This black tie affair will feature highlights of the Jacksonville Urban League’s rich 60-year history in spectacular fashion through specially designed sets, popular music entertainers, jazz and big band music. It’s first-class entertainment for everyone’s enjoyment.
The recipients of the 2007 Equal Opportunity Awards will also be recognized during the gala. Four awards are presented annually to individuals and corporations who exhibit leadership in perpetuating the principle of equal opportunity and diversity.
“We are really excited about the 60th celebration. It’s a wonderful accomplishment that represents six decades of commitment to the community and excellence in (JUL) services,“ remarked gala co-chair and FCCJ North Campus President Dr. Barbara Darby. “The anniversary gala is set to echo the 60-year milestone by being truly magnificent.”
Also serving as co-chair is Mrs. Madeline Scales-Taylor, community relations’ administrator for Mayo Clinic Jacksonville.
Founded in 1947, the Jacksonville Urban League is one of more than one hundred affiliates of the National Urban League. The JUL employs a three-prong strategy, referred to as the 3E’s – Education, Economic Empowerment, and Employment & Training. The JUL also provides services that include housing initiatives, youth empowerment, early childhood initiatives, crime prevention initiatives, and many other community based services. “Strength, brilliance and endurance best describe the Jacksonville Urban League. We have made great strides in our leadership and in our services,” stated JUL president Richard Danford. The National Urban League is the nation’s oldest and largest community-based movement devoted to empowering African Americans and others to enter the economic and social mainstream.
