Lucy Aspinall first went to work as a judicial assistant at the Duval County Courthouse in 1969. From that time until March 28 when she retired, she gained too many friends to count, and more than 100 of them gathered in Courtroom A Friday to honor long career.

Fourth Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Don Moran presented Aspinall with a plaque that was inscribed, “On behalf of the entire Fourth Judicial Circuit.”

“Lucy has done so much for all of us,” said Moran, who also pointed out that Aspinall “was preceded in retirement by her son, George.”

Linda Stone, Circuit Court Judge Fred Tygart’s judicial assistant, conducted a bit of legal research and determined that as of her retirement date at 82 years of age, Aspinall was the oldest judicial assistant in the state of Florida.

As for her post-court life, Aspinall said she plans to travel and will soon be departing for Key West with her entire family.

When she was told that her former boss, County Court Judge Sharon Tanner, was forming the “I Love Lucy Club” and would be getting a group together once a month to take Aspinall to lunch, the recent retiree replied, “Oh, that would be fine with me.”
