Tonight’s City Council meeting has several agenda items of note. Some are items that were introduced several weeks ago, while others will be introduced tonight and assigned to various Council committees.
• The County Courthouse legislation capping the project at $350 million is up for a third reading. A couple of weeks ago, project consultant Sam Mousa explained in detail to the Council Finance Committee how the $350 million figure was derived and exactly what type of courthouse was needed.
New business includes:
• A resolution that would approve the issuance of $33 million in bonds by the Jacksonville Housing Finance Authority. The multifamily housing revenue bonds are for the acquisition, construction and equipping of the Bennett Creek Apartments.
• Five of the eight members of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission are up for reappointment. Craig Gibbs, Clarence Gooden, Barbara Moore, Bob Rhodes and Randle Shoemaker are all eligible for a second two-year term that would expire June 30, 2010.
• The Supervisor of Elections Office is looking to provide 10 early voting sites for the primary election in September and 15 early voting sites for the general election in November.
