The organization: The Amelia Island/Nassau County Board of Realtors is a trade association of licensed Realtors and invited affiliate members in Nassau County. What she’ll do: “I think the biggest responsibility is that oversee the activities of the leadership to ensure that our goals as an organization and our strategic plan are accomplished. We work with an outside firm to help us plan for our future. We revisit our strategic plan throughout the year to make sure that we are on course and that we have direction. Sometimes we find that we need to tweak our strategies and tactics. That is our guideline and it is my job to support the leaders of our organization to help them accomplish our goals.”
How was she elected/selected? There is a nominating committee that includes the current president and past officers. Scrudato was nominated as the treasurer and then again as president-elect. Once someone is nominated for president-elect, they automatically become president. “Your time as president-elect helps prepare you for president. It was a valuable time for me.”
When are meetings and what happens during them? “We have a board meeting and general membership meeting, which is also a luncheon once a month with a guest speaker. During the board meetings the directors and officers of the organization go over an agenda that includes reviewing of
last month’s minutes, the budget/financial report and a list of new businesses. We always go back to our goals and what we want to accomplish. There is always a reason for what we are planning or discussing.”
Her business: She is a Realtor with Century 21 John T. Ferreira & Son.
Goals for 2008 as president? “Educate ourselves on local and national public policy issues, so we can make educated decisions at the polls. We should vote for representatives who support issues that Realtors and the general public find important such as property rights, responsible lending practices, affordable and available homeowner’s insurance and smart growth and development. I would like to accurately depict the real estate market and conditions to consumers. There are so many benefits for buyers right now and so much bad information. It is our job to give the consumer the whole story. I would also like to improve our internal and external communication.”
How does the organization have an impact on the industry? “We impact the industry because we have knowledge of our profession. We work to make our community a better place to live through education, involvement and dedication to the profession and our community. We take those experiences and we use them to serve the best interests of our clients. That is rule number one.”
How is your organization unique? “What is unique in general about the real estate profession is that we are all competitors, but when we come together we accomplish so many of our goals, we learn to work together and we find friendship despite the environment of sales,” she said.
