• According to Maxine McBride of Clockwork Marketing, her husband LandMar Group COO Roger Postlethwaite is leaving the development company this month. McBride said he is leaving to pursue other things.
• It’s no secret there’s a major battle looming over who uses how much of the St. Johns River. What may be a secret, though, is an untapped water supply that could alleviate the problem. According to Carter Bryan of The Carter Bryan Group, there is a “major freshwater spring off Crescent Beach in the Atlantic Ocean that is pouring out millions of gallons of fresh water from the Florida aquifer and has been doing this for hundreds of years.” Bryan said he has talked to former Gov. Claude Kirk about the untapped water supply and Kirk estimated there are 50-100 million gallons of fresh water a day coming out of the spring.

• Barbara Darby, president of Florida Community College at Jacksonville’s North Campus and Scott Whalen, president and CEO of St. Vincent’s Healthcare were announced as new members of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida’s Board of Directors.
• Members of the Museum of Science & History now have an added perk. MOSH members can present their membership card at the World Golf Village’s IMAX Theater for $1 off admission to “Sea Monsters” or any other IMAX film.
• Also at MOSH, the Jacksonville Herpetological Society Exhibition will be at the museum on the second Saturday of each month. The exhibition runs from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
• The Duval County Legislative Delegation will hold a public hearing to receive testimony on proposed local bills Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 117 W. Duval St. The members will vote on the proposed bills at the meeting. The delegation will also discuss a proposal from the St. Johns River Management District to drain water from the St. Johns River to alleviate water shortages in central Florida. Anyone who wishes to speak at the public hearing must call the delegation office at 630-1680. Those addressing the delegation are required to complete a speaker’s form and submit it along with any material for the meeting before noon on Jan 11.
