Alan Rosner of Harris Guidi, chair of the Jacksonville Bar Association’s Judicial Relations Committee, announced a new luncheon program called “Sidebar Box Lunches” for area attorneys.
The meetings are designed to bring together the judges of one of the Fourth Circuit’s divisions with area attorneys for an informal question and answer session. During the session, attorneys may ask questions and judges may discuss their views on courtroom procedure, attorney conduct and their expectations for other practice areas, including pleading and discovery.
“It gives attorneys and judges an opportunity to exchange information with each other,” said Rosner. “The Bench and Bar is strictly a social event, and other than that when attorneys appear in the courtroom, it is a more formal setting and it doesn’t allow them (judges and attorneys) to exchange information with each other.”
These lunches will allow area attorneys to interact with the judiciary in a unique way and afford those attorneys the invaluable opportunity to learn how to best serve their clients in the judicial arena.
The committee plans to schedule a lunch every two to three months, each time featuring the judges of a different Fourth Judicial Circuit division.
The first Sidebar Box Lunch, moderated by Elliott Zisser, will feature the judges and magistrates of the Family Law division.
The lunch will be held at noon on Jan. 25 in Courtroom A of the Duval County Courthouse. Lunch is being sponsored by Thomson West, and it is free to attorneys who wish to attend.
Space is limited for the luncheon. Attorneys who wish to attend are asked to RSVP no later than Jan. 18 to Rosner at 398-9002 or [email protected]. The next luncheon is being planned for the end of March.
