The Northeast Florida Builders Association’s last 2007 board meeting was a time to wrap up and put a bow on another year of work and growth.
With only two weeks between the November and December meetings (due to Thanksgiving holiday), the membership blitz netted 28 new members.
“We’re staying about status quo,” said 2007 Membership Chair Jerry Linder of The Vintage Group, “but we certainly want everyone to push as much as they can to bring in new members for 2008.”
Linder was honored at the meeting for his work as membership chair, receiving a plaque for his efforts. He will pass the duties on to 2007 NEFBA President Bill Cellar of Providence Homes.
“Our goal was to stay above 2,000 members and we did that,” said Linder. “We couldn’t have done it without the dedication of the staff and especially Ashley (Bizzarri, membership director).”
The organization finished 2007 as the top organization in Florida and eighth nationally in terms of membership.
Linder wasn’t the only one moving aside. Cellar is the outgoing president and the gavel now goes to Mark Davidson of CornerStone Homes. It’s a tough post to leave, though, especially in such a turbulent year.
“I’ve had so much fun I think I’m going to take another year of this,” joked Cellar before the board.
Steve Williams, the 2007 Sales and Marketing chair, announced that the 2008 Laurel Awards sponsorships are available and are 50 percent filled. Sponsorships for a few monthly breakfasts also remain. Williams also is stepping aside and will be succeeded by Alayna Oram of Burdette Ketchum.
Two of the organization’s programs also issued a call for help.
The organization’s apprentice program is having difficulties placing heating, air conditioning and plumbing apprentices.
The University of North Florida’s building construction program is also seeking assistance from industry members to serve as mentors to students. The students need mentors to assist with everyday industry-related questions, said UNF Building Construction student David Hacker.
