• Mayor John Peyton will present his budget address to City Council July 14 at 10 a.m. in Council Chambers. His address is required by City ordinance.
• With just a few weeks left before NFL training camp begins, at least one Jaguar is hosting a charity event before the 2008 season begins. The annual Scott Starks Stars & Strikes Celebrity Charity Bowl to benefit the Clara White Mission is July 19 at Jax Lanes Bowling Center on Beach Boulevard Beginning at 6 p.m. Starks will be joined by teammates Rashean Mathis, Maurice Williams, Reggie Nelson, Gerald Sensabaugh and other players. Funds raised will be used to provide daily meals, culinary training and other educational programs at the Clara White Mission. For information call 354-4162.
• Tony Boselli, chair of the Neighborhood Safety and Stability Subcommittee, seemed to be sitting up a little straighter at the Jacksonville Journey Steering Committee meeting on Thursday. His mother, Dr. Candy Hodgkins, was in the audience. She had an interest in the committee’s recommendations as executive director of the Boselli Foundation and senior vice president of clinical administration for Gateway Community Services.
• Last week we reported that Linda King, wife of State Sen. Jim King, was bitten by a water moccasin near the couple’s Welaka home. After a stint in the hospital, she went home Monday. King was treated at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka.
• Correction to a Monday story. Attorneys Tim Strong and Eric Holshouser left the law firm of Coffman, Coleman, Andrews & Grogan and joined the Jacksonville office of Fowler White Boggs Banker. Also, attorney and soon-to-be-judge Jeff Morrow is with Jefferson Morrow, P.A.
• The megayacht “SeaFair” will be docked in front of the Hyatt next week with private tours set for Tuesday and Wednesday. The 228-foot, five-story yacht serves as a venue for high-end parties, receptions, art exhibits and other events.
• Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice R. Fred Lewis will speak at the Jacksonville Justice Association’s next quarterly meeting Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the River City Brewing Company. The presentation is titled, “The Vanishing Trial-What the Trial Lawyer Must Know.”
• City Council member and Jacksonville Waterways Commission Chair Bill Bishop has made the decision to move the JWC meetings on a permanent basis. They are now on the second Thursday of each month. The next meeting is Aug. 14.
• Speaking of Council, the annual paint job is taking place in the Council offices. Once done, the portraits of Council President Ronnie Fussell and Council VP Richard Clark will be moved to the top of the row of portraits.
• Candidates for office will have to turn in treasurer’s reports by July 10. Those reports will cover the time between April 1 and June 30. There is a fine of $50 a day for late reports.
• Per development deal with the City, Crescent Resources, LLC — the parent company of Shipyards developer LandMar — has submitted its financial statement for the year ending Dec. 1, 2007. According to the auditor, Ernst & Young, the company reported assets of $2.6 billion, most of which are in the form of residential projects in progress and club property.
