• When City Council President Daniel Davis’ term officially ends June 30, his role as chair of the Tourist Development Council will also be shifted to Council President-elect Ronnie Fussell. Davis might not be leaving the committee, though. According to an e-mail, Davis would like to stay on as one of the two elected officials on the board and a bill could be introduced at Tuesday’s Council meeting. Another spot will open as well since Mia Jones has resigned from Council to run for the State Legislature.

• In an effort to streamline needs and communication, numerous members of the area’s homeless shelters recently met to discuss the impact of the City’s tight budget. “They were just initial discussions, but in difficult times there needs to be an open line of communication,” said Sulzbacher Center President and CEO Audrey Moran. “If one organization is full, then we can direct them to another. It’s still about helping those who need help.”

• The Playtime Drive-In property won’t be vacant for long. It looks like the site of the theater, which closed earlier this summer, will be purchased by a church.

• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce is bringing back Hob Nob. It’s an open-to-the-public event for political candidates to meet and greet, and it will be Aug. 7 at Metropolitan Park.

• Our superstar football player, Tim Tebow, will start his junior year at Florida this fall but many think he’ll go for the pro draft after the season. One reason: he’s in line to graduate in December.

• First, it was a series of rooftop parties on the Water Street Parking Garage and now it’s parties in the (Hemming) Plaza. But soon the Make a Scene Downtown! after work get-together will be moving to the Jacksonville Landing for at least the first Thursday in July, according to Christina Langston of the City’s Office of Special Events. The reason? It’s the Thursday before Independence Day.

• Remember Bart Hubbach, the former Jaguars beat writer for the Times-Union? He’s now with the New York Post covering the New York Mets.

• Good weekend to be at Town Center at the beach. Crowd pleasers Boogie Freaks and Blistur are at Ragtime and Sun Dog, respectively.

• A familiar local voice got a little national face time Wednesday night. Cole Pepper, sports director at AM-690, was on ESPN News talking about the upcoming Jaguars season.

• Speaking of radio, how big are the Gators around here? So big that AM-930 has a countdown clock to kickoff the first game — down to the second.

• The long-empty Neptune Beach theater is no more. It’s being demolished this week.

• Correction. Business Journal writer Mark Szakonyi’s name was misspelled in a Wednesday City Note.
