• Florida Community College at Jacksonville is looking to add a few bachelor’s degrees. School President Dr. Stephen Wallace is seeking letters of support for the school’s applications for degrees in applied science, information technology management and public safety management and bachelor’s of science in early childhood education.

• A few creative sorts were recently caught by the staff at Mongos Flat Hot Grill at the Landing. Seems one of the tricks to getting a little extra is to build the wall of your bowl above original capacity. Customers who use materials including green peppers, cucumbers or carrots will be charged extra for “wall building.” This practice, along with plate sharing or doggie bags, is not allowed at Mongos.

• Forbes.com recently ranked Jacksonville No. 45 on its list of “50 Best and worst-ranked cities to handle an oil crisis.” The list ranked 50 cities in all, with Jacksonville just edging out Indianapolis, Memphis, Louisville, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City for the not-so-coveted last spot. Factors in the ranking include public transit use, telecommuting along with bike and walk rates. San Francisco topped the list.

• City Council President-elect Ronnie Fussell will miss his last full Council meeting as VP. He has an excused absence for tonight’s meeting due to an illness.

• The Marble Slab Creamery in Riverside has closed. But fear not ice cream lovers: Baltimore-based Lee’s Ice Cream is filling the void in the same spot. If you want to see what’s in store, you can see for yourself at the only other Jacksonville location at Neptune Beach.
