• Oct. 1 marks the 40th anniversary of the consolidation of the City of Jacksonville, and Marks Gray attorney Jim Rinaman has begun the push for a major event to mark the milestone. According to Rinaman, the city routinely celebrated “Consolidation Day” from 1970 to 1980, but that day was eliminated by former Mayor Jake Godbold. The 25th anniversary was recognized, but Rinaman’s pretty sure nothing’s happened since. Rinaman says the City and the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce should organize the event, but he has offered his help with promotion.

• Attorneys Spencer Cummings and W. William Li have been named shareholders in the law firm of Pappas Metcalf Jenks & Miller. The firm is on Riverside Avenue.

• Jacksonville lawyers can enhance their appellate practice before the First District Court of Appeals by learning directly from the Court’s judges. The Florida Bar Appellate Practice Section is holding the E. Earle Zehmer Appellate Practice Seminar on April 25, 2008 at the Hyatt. Speaking at the seminar will be eight of the 15 judges on the First DCA, which hears all appeals from the Fourth Judicial Circuit. The event begins at 8:20 a.m. with opening remarks by seminar co-chairs Bryan Gowdy and judge Peter Webster and goes on until a reception at 5:30 p.m. Look for details and information on how to register at the Appellate Practice Section’s Web site, www.flabarappellate.org.

• The Northeast Florida Paralegal Association is hosting a “Bring Your Boss to Lunch” day on March 13 at the River Club. Buddy Schulz, lawyer at Holland & Knight, will be speaking on the topics of principles of professional trial advocacy and professionalism in preparing for trial. For more information, contact Nancy O’Grady at Spohrer & Dodd at 483-5343. RSVP deadline is Friday.
