Journalists and attorneys are invited to attend the 2008 Media Law Conference April 4 at Stetson University College of Law’s Tampa Law Center that will explore “Hot Topics in Media Law.”
Sponsored by Stetson and the Media and Communications Law Committee of The Florida Bar, the conference will take an in-depth look at issues including: the False Light Doctrine and invasion of privacy claims; electronic access and privacy issues; open government and open records; college and professional sports credentialing; and using civilian journalists and the legal issues that arise.
Presenters and panelists include journalists, judges, academics and attorneys in the field. Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice R. Fred Lewis will present the luncheon talk, “Secret Dockets and New Rules.”
Registration and a continental breakfast will take place between 8:30-9:15 a.m., followed by four question-and-answer sessions and the luncheon speech. The conference concludes at 5:30 p.m.
Tuition is $199 if payment is postmarked by Friday. After that date, the cost is $219 and $239 at the door. For students and non-attorney media, journalists and public relations practitioners, the cost is $99.
Application is being made to The Florida Bar for nine hours of general CLE credit.
This year’s conference program chair is Timothy Conner, partner at Holland & Knight. The faculty chair from Stetson University College of Law is professor Catherine Cameron.
