• The Crew, a group of young professionals from HabiJax, will host its first annual charity golf tournament March 28 from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The tournament, “Golf Fore Homes,” will benefit HabiJax, the largest nonprofit affordable housing provider in Duval County. • Applications for the 2008 Young Women in Public Affairs Award are due by Saturday. The award recognizes college-bound girls ages 16-20 who have illustrated leadership and community involvement. The winner will receive $750 and vie for up to $1,500 in regional and international competitions. • Edward Waters College is offering to help reduce violent crime in the neighborhood around the school. Led by Student Government Association President Lucy Milicc and Chief of Staff Reylius Thompson, the school is hosting its first “EWC Non-Violence March” April 12. The daylong event gets underway at 11 a.m.
• “Progressive Energy & Environment Congress,” a three-day event focusing on energy reduction and environmental stability, will be held April 6-8 at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront. Speakers include representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, Subaru, Toyota, Michelin and other global manufacturers.
