• City Council will consider a bill that would appropriate $430,000 and give it to the Gator Bowl Association to make up for ticket sale shortfalls from the 2007 Dr Pepper ACC title game. The fund will come from the Juvenile Justice Miscellaneous Account into the SMG ACC Championship Game Contractual Account. The GBA paid the ACC $430,000 in a settlement over ticket sales.

• The Oct. 21 “Where Have All the Children Gone?” event hosted by the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Northeast Florida, Inc. (HMHBC) raised $7,000 for the “Cribs for Kids” program. It’s an effort that raises funds to provide cribs to at-risk mothers in Jacksonville. The waiting list for cribs was 53, but the fundraiser will be able to purchase 35 cribs for mothers and their babies. HMHBC is funded by United Way of Northeast Florida and the Northeast Florida Healthy Start Coalition.

• The City is looking to enter into an agreement with the Jacksonville Maritime Society so it can operate the Jacksonville Maritime Museum on the Southbank for another year. The deal includes two, one-year options. Another deal in the works would allow the Jacksonville Historical Society to continue operating the Jacksonville Historical Center for a year with two, one-year options.

• Classic movie buffs have two more chances this year. The Main Library is showing “Rocky” Nov. 13 and “White Christmas” Dec. 11. Both shows start at 5:45 in the Hicks Auditorium.

• Stuck in traffic: Presidential candidate Ralph Nader was in town Tuesday for a brief visit on his campaign trail that took him to both Gainesville and Tampa, but he was running a little later than his anticipated 11:15 a.m. start time at the Main Library. The reason? According to a campaign volunteer, he couldn’t find a parking spot. For more on Nader’s visit, see above.

• Speaking of the Nader press conference, there was one local candidate who made an appearance, as Duval County Clerk of Courts candidate John Winkler showed up to pass out his campaign materials.

• Upcoming at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens: “Florida Highwaymen Paintings and Prison Murals: Al Black and the Florida Highwaymen” exhibit opening Friday and on display through January. Along with Black’s paintings, author Gary Munroe’s photographs about the works of art will also be on display.
