As the next graduating class from a local law school prepares to graduate and take the Florida Bar exam, they were welcomed to the “Finish Line” recently.
Florida Coastal School of Law (FCSL) held its second annual “Finish Line” reception on March 27 to reward its latest class of third-year law students or 3L’s. The list of invited attendees included FCSL administrators and professors, and local attorneys.
“This is a great networking event for our 3L’s,” said Ellen Sefton, organizer of the event and director of career services for FCSL. “It gives them a chance to get to know some of the people they might be interviewing with soon.”
Sefton received about 100 rsvp’s for the event from FCSL 3L students.
Despite daily reports of law firms reducing staff across the country and the possibility of the local Public Defender’s Office furloughing his office in June, some students were still anxious to join the profession.
“I’m a little nervous about the job market right now,” said Nicolle Piquet, a 3L who has been clerking at the Law Office of Chris Johns, “but I am excited to start my career.”
The event also gave some a chance to reminisce about their time at FCSL.
“I remember going up to the trailer and paying my tuition when they were over on Beach Boulevard,” said Glenn Warren of Harris Guidi. “The school has come a long way.”
FCSL was founded in 1996, and has grown to an enrollment of over 1,000 law students and employs a faculty of over 100.
The theme of the party was “Tastes from around the World” and three stations offered food and beers from different countries. The event was catered by Anthony’s Gourmet Catering.
