Law Day festivities kicked off locally last week with the Jacksonville Bar Association’s innaugural “Rendezvous on the River” charity event.
Over 200 people from more than a dozen different professions visited the River City Brewing Company to give support for an event benefitting Learn to Read Jacksonville.
“We were very pleased with the success of the first annual Rendezvous on the River,” said Fraz Ahmed, organizer of the event. “We had a tremendous turnout from professionals within our community in the fields of banking, healthcare, journalism, finance, insurance, public relations, non-profit organizations and the legal field, as well as Florida Coastal School of Law students.”
Initial estimates revealed that the event raised $2,472 for Learn to Read Jacksonville. This total didn’t include a contribution from the deans at Florida Coastal School of Law (FCSL).
The JBA plans to make Rendezvous on the River an annual event.
“As this was the first year for what is bound to become an annual fundraiser,” said Ahmed, “We are looking forward to developing new ideas for helping the growth of Rendezvous on the River in the years to come.”
Volunteers who helped organize the event included Brad Blair, Brenna Caballero, Megan Harper, Lindsay Tygart-Havice, Maggie Jo Hilliard, Shea Moser, Heather Corey and Tricia Rado.
Monetary sponsors included Florida Coastal School of Law, the Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association, and Kubicki Draper, P.A.
