The Florida Bar is asking its members who are — or have in the past — served in the United States’ armed forces to complete a short military service survey online at floridabar.org.

Daniel J. D’Alesio Jr., chair of the Bar’s Military Affairs Committee, said the survey was developed to properly recognize, at appropriate times, the military service of members of the Bar; to tap the knowledge and expertise of these members in developing programs and activities to help fulfill the legal needs of current and former members of the armed forces living in Florida; to inform those taking the survey about the Military Affairs Committee’s initiatives and programs; and to a develop a comprehensive mailing list to ensure wide dissemination of that information.

The original survey was launched in 2006 and more than 1,600 members of the Bar responded.

“As originally configured, however, it was not feasible for members of the Bar to update their survey responses,” said D’Alesio. “Any members who previously responded to the survey and later desired to update their information were required to submit an entirely new survey, resulting in unnecessary duplication of files in the survey database.”

That problem has now been remedied as the survey has been modified to permit members who initially took the survey to update their data.

“I encourage all current and former service members who have not taken the survey to invest a couple of minutes of your time to complete the survey located at The Florida Bar Web site on the Military Affairs Committee page,” said D’Alesio. “I thank all who have already taken the survey and encourage you to access the survey to review your initial responses and to revise them if necessary to ensure that they are accurate and current.”
