• Tickets go on sale Friday for three big-name acts coming to The Florida Theatre. Indigo Girls play Feb. 24, Boyz II Men are here April 8 and Joan Rivers brings her act to town June 3.
• According to Wachovia Regional President, North Florida Scott Coble, Wells Fargo was just ranked the state’s top Small Business Administration lender in dollar volume. During the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, Wells Fargo extended over $43.5 million in SBA financing to small businesses across the state.
• Look for a handful of new initiatives from the Museum of Science & History next year. They include a new space science education program, the addition of first-floor classrooms and enhancements to the museum’s Florida Naturalist’s Center.
• The 5 Points Theatre is showing Saturday’s SEC Championship Game between Florida and Alabama on the big screen. Kick off is at 4 p.m. Food and beverages will be available and the date also marks the return of “Guy the BBQ Guy,” who has taken a couple of weeks off. There’s no charge for admission.
• Twane Duckworth has been appointed as an Assistant General Counsel with the Office of General Counsel for the City of Jacksonville, and works in the Litigation Department. The 2004 graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center started with the office Monday.
• The Jacksonville Aviation Authority has begun its annual Holiday Music Program and Christmas Tree Decorating Contest at JIA. Through Dec. 12 local school groups will entertain travelers in the center courtyard of the airport daily from 10 a.m.-noon. Christmas trees have also been set up and decorated throughout the concourses and for a $1 donation, visitors may vote for their favorite. Proceeds will benefit Dreams Come True. Since 2003, the contest has raised more than $35,000 for the nonprofit organization.
