Clients, staff and the community alike helped celebrate the holidays Tuesday during the Community Rehabilitation Center’s Christmas party. But while much of the partying was taking place, CRC Director of Operations Stanley Twiggs was busy at work for a special guest.

Public Defender Matt Shirk visited with CRC officials, took a tour of the facility and gained a better overall understanding of its processes in hopes to build on the past relationship between his office and the local nonprofit that provides assistance to clients with mental health, substance abuse and housing issues.

“I learned a lot,” said Shirk during his visit. “All of the programs they offer and the services they provide, it’s impressive.”

The tour ultimately ended up at the party scene, where the more than 50 clients and community members took a break for Shirk to say a few words before he was beckoned to join in the dancing.

“No, no, you don’t want to see me dance,” joked Shirk.

Joshua Cockrell, CRC director of marketing and communications, said he’s looking forward to the future strengthened relationship between the Public Defender’s office and CRC, while also showing appreciation for Shirk’s time to visit during the holiday season.

“It’s exciting for us,” said Cockrell. “We’re helping people get the help they need and we’re happy to build our relationships to further that mission.”
