• An update to the Monday article on Florida Bar rules for Web sites. Though the rules go into affect Friday, the Florida Bar Board of Governors voted to enact a six-month moratorium on enforcement to give members enough time to comply with the new rules. The board also approved a policy on attempted voluntary filings of lawyer Web sites that Bar staff will not review the entire contents of a Web site even if a lawyer files that voluntarily, but will respond to specific questions involving a specific phrase or image to be included on a Web site.
• To further promote awareness of children and youth seeking adoption, the Jacksonville Bar Association is announcing the formation of an Adoption Law Section. This Section will provide members of the Jacksonville Bar and the public with information in the area of adoption law, which includes both dependency and private adoptions. • Tickets are on sale for “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a concert celebrating Martin Luther King Day. • In reviewing the e-mails sent to the Charter Revision Commission, there are a lot of responses to the idea of changing the sheriff from an elected to an appointed position. All of that discussion was against the idea.
• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce will host its 23rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast from 7-9:30 a.m. Jan. 8 at the Osborn Center. The breakfast will feature keynote speaker Rodney L. Hurst Sr., author of “It Was Never About a Hot Dog and a Coke: A Personal Account of the 1960 Sit-in Demonstrations in Jacksonville, Florida and Ax Handle Saturday.” Individual tickets are $20 per person and corporate tables of 10 are $250 per table. • Not a big football fan and looking for some entertainment on New Year’s weekend? The Cecil Aquatic Center, 13611 Normandy Rd. will host the Third Annual JaxParks Swim Classic Jan. 1-3, from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. each day. Last year’s match welcomed nearly 400 swimmers and more than 2,000 spectators. Local teams that participated included the Spartan Aquatic Club, First Coast Aquatic Club and North Florida Swimming.
