Little is more satisfying than helping out the children who live their lives in difficult family situations. As State budget cuts take a toll on many organizations and government programs across the State, small community-minded nonprofit organizations are feeling the pinch. Now, more than ever, these small organizations need the help of their local communities. The Young Lawyers Section took this to heart and selected the Family Nurturing Center, Inc., as the beneficiary of the YLS’s Fifth Annual Tee It Up for Charity Golf Tournament.
The 2009 YLS Tournament will be held on March 20 at the Plantation in Ponte Vedra, Florida. The shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. An awards ceremony and reception for participants and volunteers will follow.
Sponsorship packages are available for the golf tournament. For additional information or to RSVP for the event, contact Elizabeth Howard at 904-346-5905 or [email protected].
The 2008 tournament raised more than $20,000 which benefited Duval County’s Special Olympics program. The ‘Tee It Up’ tournament also recently won the 2007 Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Outstanding Public Service Project.
This year’s sponsor, the Family Nurturing Center of Florida, provides a nurturing environment for families impacted by divorce, custody battles, and domestic violence, by keeping children safe during these difficult times and helping parents foster positive relationships with their children. The organization meets the needs of these families with a range of programs, all designed to help nurture the family ties that are so important to the health and well-being of every family member.
YLS support of the Family Nurturing Center does not begin or end with the 2009 golf tournament. Members of the YLS are currently supporting the Family Nurturing Center’s efforts in hosting its annual fundraiser, the “Taste of Chocolate Challenge.”
The 6th Annual Taste of Chocolate Challenge will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Haskell building on Riverside Avenue. The event starts at 6 p.m. and will include a champagne diamond drop with the winner receiving a one carat diamond courtesy of Miriam’s Jewelry; a drawing for a Carnival Cruise for two; auctions featuring items from the Ritz-Carlton, PGA Tour, PF Changs, The Wine Bar, Chef Phillip; and many more. Pre-orders are now being accepted for chances to win a one carat diamond or a cruise for two at the 6th Annual Taste of Chocolate Challenge. Visit the Family Nurturing Center’s Web site at www.fncflorida.org to get tickets and enter for a chance to win.
If you have any problems getting tickets to the event or would like more information about the Family Nurturing Center, please e-mail me at [email protected]. The YLS hopes you will be able to support the Family Nurturing Center through the golf tournament and the Chocolate Challenge. As we embrace this new year, never forget that the success of our community is tied to the strength of the families whom live and work around us all.
