Community Involvement:
I volunteer at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA). I have been the speaker at the monthly bankruptcy clinic for many years.
How did you get involved?
I was told they needed help and I volunteered to do the bankruptcy clinic every month. It’s designed to show people who are contemplating filing bankruptcy what is involved in the filing. Its about a two hour clinic. It’s a pretty decent explanation of how the process works.
How can someone else get involved?
Contact JALA. They have a lot of volunteer programs. Even if your area of law isn’t needed by JALA, they could use some more volunteers in the Credit Abuse Resistance Education (CARE) program.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
Helping people is very satisfying. It varies, but we will host between 10-15 people at each clinic. There has been an increase lately.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
I am reading “The Book of the Dead” by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.
