• The mayor’s office has pulled its nomination of Cynthia Griffin as a member of the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission. Seems Griffin is already a member of a state board and therefore isn’t eligible to sit on a City board.

• According to the latest report issued by the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida, Inc. over 77,000 patients were admitted to area hospitals in January. Leading the list was Baptist Medical Center which took in 8,633 patients. Baptist was followed closely by Shands Jacksonville, which took in 7,382 patients.

• Also in the report are the occupancy rates for area hospitals. Memorial Hospital tops that list with an occupancy rate of 95.9 percent. Overall, the area had an occupancy rate of 71.4 percent.

• The tennis courts the pros will play on during next month’s MPS Group Championships in Sawgrass are done as of today.

• Even more good new for Mayport residents opposed to the Jacksonville Port Authority’s attempt to build a cruise terminal in the area. The land use change that would have been required for the development to proceed is being removed from the Coastal and Conservation Element of the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

• The Fraternal Order of Police will hold its April meeting on the eighth. The FOP headquarters are on Beach Boulevard about a quarter mile east of University Boulevard.

• Suzanne Kirkpatrick, of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, has been elected to the position of recording secretary of the Florida Police Accreditation Coalition.

• The Monster Energy Supercross will make its inaugural stop at the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium April 4. About 150 racers will be competing for the tour win. The field will be whittled down to 20 riders for the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Supercross class main event. The rider with the closest resemblance to a local would be Jason Thomas, of Melrose. Ivan Tedesco, Davi Millsaps, Cody Cooper and Ben Townley are from Tallahassee.

• Former assistant public defender Stephen Mosca has opened The Mosca Law Firm at 1054 Kings Ave. and will continue work in criminal defense.
