• The Landing’s bookstore is shutting down for good this weekend and there are plenty of books left. The owner says he also has a ton of books in storage. A bunch should get swooped up when Chamblin’s owner Ron Chamblin buys many of them today.
• Updating a story from Wednesday, three more names have been added to the list of applicants for the Charter Review Commission: Bank of America Vice President for Market Development Martha Barrett (School Board Dist. 1), Jacksonville Urban League President Richard Danford (School Board Dist. 1) and private investor James Charles Sawyer (School Board Dist. 2). City Council President Ronnie Fussell will accept applications until the Commission is seated at the end of this month.
• The eighth annual Plaid Party will be held at Fast Boys Pierside in Jax Beach tonight from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. All net proceeds from the party will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Go to plaidparty.com for ticket information for The Players tribute party.
• One more from The Players... Longtime sports talk radio host David Lamm was in the media center Wednesday. Lamm, who now works for Big Brothers Big Sisters, should be back on the air sometime this summer. He and several others were let go earlier this year by AM-930.
• A Northeast Florida Women Transportation Seminar presentation featuring updates and insight on the I-95/I-10 interchange construction project will be held today at the Florida Department of Transportation’s Urban Office. Presenters include FDOT Project Manager Andre Sutherland, Archer Western Project Manager Jeff Hutchinson and GAI Project Engineer Gregory Nettuno.
• Goodwill of North Florida has opened a new 10,000-square-foot retail store at Lenox Pointe near the corner of Lenox and Cassat avenues. The thrift store is a “pound store,” where items are weighed by cashiers and customers pay per pound. The new store is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and on Sunday from noon-5 p.m. All proceeds from retail store sales help change lives by providing job training and placement services for people with disabilities and special needs living in North Florida.
