As soon as Cmdr. Scott Smith, the commanding officer of the USS Klakring, stepped off his ship onto the Northbank Riverwalk, he was met by the City’s Chief of Military Affairs, Veterans and Disabled Services Bob Buehn. He was bearing gifts for the skipper and his crew in the form of 48 tickets to the Jaguars vs. Kansas City Chiefs game along with coupons for meals and discounts on hotel rooms. The tickets were donated by the Allied Veterans of the World, Inc. and Affiliates, part of 1,000 tickets to Sunday’s game the organization provided for servicemen and women and their families.
The guided missile frigate will be moored on the Northbank at the Hyatt through Wednesday and is open each day for tours. It’s part of the “Week of Valor” to honor military personnel. For the complete schedule call 630-3690 or visit www.makeascenedowntown.com.
